Magistrate Judge Selection Announcement

The United States District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina is pleased to announce that the District Judges have selected JoAnna McFadden to serve as a United States Magistrate Judge, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of the Honorable Joe L. Webster.

Ms. McFadden began her career as a litigation associate at Latham & Watkins LLP in New York.  She then clerked for the Honorable Joseph F. Bianco when he was a District Judge for the Eastern District of New York.  Following her clerkship, Ms. McFadden was an associate at Morvillo, Abramowitz, Grand, Iason, & Anello, P.C.  Since 2012, she has served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Middle District of North Carolina, prosecuting a range of general crimes, frauds, public corruption, and civil rights violations.  Ms. McFadden has received several awards for her work as a prosecutor.

Ms. McFadden received both her undergraduate and law degrees from Northwestern University. 

Ms. McFadden will assume the position of United States Magistrate Judge in February 2026. The renewable term of appointment is eight years.  The appointment is conditioned on the results of FBI and IRS background investigations.
